How to Shave the Legs and Keep Them Silky and Smooth

By Dinesh Junoon

Leg shaving is very common in women. But it is not that easy.

Here are the tips for leg shaving and having smooth and silky legs.

For shaving the legs, a fresh and clean blade should be used. A dull blade should never be used; it makes shaving difficult and causes ingrown hair. Most of the women make this mistake, which causes irritation and cuts. The blades usually last for around 2-3 times.

Leg shaving should be performed after taking a bath or shower. This opens up the pores of the skin and the razor glides easily over the skin.

For legs, in place of a shaving cream, bath soap or a hair conditioner can also be used. This softens the hair on the legs and making shaving easy. The soap or cream may need to be reapplied if it gets washed away.

The hands should be rubbed down the legs towards the ankle and then up toward the knee. This action helps in choosing which direction the shaving should be performed. The way it feels prickly is the direction the shave should be performed. This way it gives smooth and close shave. If a person is prone to ingrown hairs, then the shave should be performed in the hair growth direction. This way, it may not give close shave but it will prevent the ingrown hairs.

The razor should be swiped gently over the legs. Unlike the other body areas, long strokes can be used on the legs. But repeated strokes should be avoided. The skin should be held tautly in one hand to get a close shave in tough areas like the knee and ankle. This reduces the nicks and cuts.

The razor should be rinsed off after every stroke with water.

After the shaving, a moisturizing lotion can be applied; it keeps the legs smooth and soft.

If red bumps and skin irritations occur after the shaving, a few eye drops can be applied on the legs where the bumps occur. This reduces the swelling and redness quickly.
